Vidya Balan starrer Begum Jaan may not release in Pakistan

Vidya Balan’s latest outing, Begum Jaan, has been banned for screening in Pakistan, a celebrity website claimed on Tuesday.

Although the movie’s trailer was met with some outstanding responses from the audience but looks like the movie is in for some serious trouble.

As Begum Jaan revolves around India – Pakistan partition, the movie won’t be released in Pakistan.

According to PinkVilla, the movie’s producer, Mahesh Bhatt, has written to the Pakistan government to allow the release of Begum Jaan but he still has not gone any response.

For all those who have seen the trailer, by now we are well aware that the movie involves a lot of harsh truths centered on Partition. And given the current politically hostile situations between India and Pakistan, it isn’t much of a surprise that Begum Jaan has been banned in Pakistan.

In her forthcoming movie, Begum Jaan, Vidya Balan will be seen playing the role of a brothel’s madam, set in the backdrop of late Indian Independence period of 1947.

The cast of Begum Jaan consists of Vidya Balan, Gauahar Khan, Ila Arun, Pallavi Sharda and Naseeruddin Shah, among others. But for all those who don’t know, Begum Jaan is the Hindi adaptation of National Award-winning filmmaker Srijit Mukherji’s Bengali’s film, Rajkahini.

The movie is slated to release on April 14, 2017.
